Gateshead is a big, varied borough and we work across all of it: the apartments around the Quays and the town centre, the flats and terraces of Bensham and Saltwell, the semis of Low Fell and Sheriff Hill, and out east through Felling and Wrekenton. It is fifteen minutes from our base, so most of it is a short run for us and a sensible price for you.

Every kind of housing in one borough

Around the Quays and the town centre it is mostly apartments, which means lifts, loading bays, timed access and sometimes a concierge. We are used to it — we will check what your building requires before the day and book whatever needs booking.

Bensham, Saltwell and Felling are Tyneside flat country, and Tyneside flats have their own rules. Two front doors, a shared staircase, and a first-floor landing that a three-seater will only clear at one particular angle. If your sofa is going to be a problem, we would rather tell you a week beforehand and plan for it than find out with your neighbours watching.

Low Fell, Sheriff Hill and the streets around them tend to be more straightforward — driveways, wider doors, garages full of things that need to go somewhere. That last part is why a lot of Low Fell jobs end up being a house move and a clearance in the same booking.

Moves, clearances and business jobs

House and flat removals are the core of what we do here, and Gateshead throws up plenty of both. We also do a steady run of student and house-share moves around Bensham and the town centre, which are small jobs done properly rather than small jobs done cheaply.

On the clearance side, we handle end-of-tenancy clear-outs, bereavement clearances, rubbish removal and tip runs right across the borough. A skip needs a permit and sits outside your house for a week; we turn up, load it ourselves and it is gone the same day. As a licensed waste carrier, everything goes to a proper facility and you can have the paperwork.

An hourly rate sounds cheaper and often is not, because the clock starts when the van leaves the yard and keeps running while somebody looks for a parking space. We quote one number for the whole job instead. It covers the van, both movers, blankets, straps, the stair trolley, the fuel and the time — including the awkward bits, the second trip if the estimate was ours to get right, and the twenty minutes spent getting a wardrobe round a landing.

What changes a price is you changing the job. If a garage full of things joins the move on the morning, or the completion slips and we come back another day, we will tell you plainly what that costs before we do it. Nothing gets added quietly at the end, and there is no charge for the quote whether you book or not.

Working across a borough this size

Gateshead covers everything from riverside apartments to former colliery estates, and the practical difference between them is access rather than distance. A move from Wrekenton to Dunston might be four miles and take a day; a move from one floor of a Bensham flat to the next street can take just as long because of the stairs at both ends. We price on the work, not the mileage, which is why two jobs the same size can come back with different numbers.

Because we are based just up the road in Whickham, the whole borough is a short run for us. That keeps prices sensible, makes same-week single-item jobs realistic, and means we can come out and look at a house properly before quoting it — which is the single biggest reason our fixed prices hold.
